Colli Euganei: introduction
A Regional Nature Reserve (Parco dei Colli Euganei) since 1989, the area of the Colli Eugeni is made up of 15 districts and includes the highest hills of the Padana planes. The Reserve is in a land rich in history, where traces of all the eras of the past, particularly flint and ceramic artefacts, have been found and are preserved in the National Atestino Museum. Many a legend is linked to the Colli Euganei, the most famous of which being those of Beata Beatrice, the Siren of lake Lispida, Berta, the Arquà lake and the legend of the thieves "buso" gateway.
A number of gastronomic delicacies are produced here, in particular prestigious D.O.C. wines such as Moscato, Fior d'Arancio, Novello, Pinello, Tocai, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Merlot. The superb honey of Colli Euganei has been included in the list of protected traditional products. The Olive Oil from Rasara, Marzemina, Matosso and Rondella is considered to be of exceptional quality.
