Fast cars, slow holidays
Three reasons why you'll love it here
- Relax in the sweetly scented Puglian countryside
- Sleep in a luxury suite - in a traditional Trullo
- Stock up on organic treats to eat, in the farm shop
Never one to be left twiddling his thumbs, when Cesare Fiorio quit his job in the fast lane (he just happens to have been Ferrari's Formula 1 team manager), he decided to devote his time and energy to realizing a unique rural retreat in the sunny southern Italian region of Puglia.
Country chic
Featuring the exposed stone walls and barrel vaulted ceilings typical of Puglia's country homes, Masseria Camarda's cool and uncluttered rooms have everything you need, and nothing you don't.
A large double room and junior suite have been created in what were once the farm's stables. On one side there are the estate's olive groves, on the other a charming courtyard where, on warm summer evenings, guests gather to chat and enjoy a drink.
I "trulli" love you
Sleeping in one of the region's traditional trulli is one of those unforgettable experiences which anybody who loves Puglia should try. Two suites at Masseria Camarda have been created in these characteristic, cone-shaped cottages.
Surrounded by a magnificent display of peach, fig, cherry, almond and olive trees, each of the 50sqm suites has a fully equipped kitchen and private garden.
Cesare Fiorio's undying passion for Formula 1 is celebrated in the "Ferrari room", which is filled with motorcar memorabilia, including the body of the F1 Ferrari with which Nigel Mansell won the Brasilian GP
Puglian taste parade
The 27 hectares of agricultural land surrounding the Masseria are used to grow fruit, vegetables, olive trees, grapes and the wheat which, after being made into flour, is used to make Puglia's traditional ear-shaped orecchiette pasta.
All the produce made on the farm, including an excellent extra virgin olive oil and a highly-prized Primitivo wine, is 100% organic and available for purchase in the farm shop.
Always fancied learning how to make Puglia's fantastic foccacia or orecchiette? Enroll for one of the farm stay's entertaining, hands-on cooking classes and find out!
The great outdoors
Cycling, running, trekking, horse-riding: Masseria Camarda is the perfect place to do the lot!
There are any number of scenic paths and bridleways winding their way between the olive trees, across the trulli-dotted fields, and through the ancient woods surrounding the farm-stay. Swimming pool in the garden? Very, very soon, in May. ..
Something 100% Puglian? On request, a troupe of professional ballerinas will come and teach you the steps of the region's incredibly energetic Pizzica Pugliese dance. Lessons are, naturally, held outdoors, in the main courtyard.
