The History of Salento Written in Stone
Discover the charm of staying in a traditional masseria farmhouse from the 1700's, built entirely of tufo stone, with traditional vaulted ceilings and original architectural details. The La Macchiola welcomes guests in their comfortable rooms and apartments located in the estate's restored historic estate buildings, including the olive mill, the storerooms, and the winery.
Both the rooms and the self catering apartments open onto the internal courtyard. From the private patios, guests can wander into the Italian garden lush with boxwood hedges, towering cedar and palm trees, and fragrant citrus groves.
Savor your Summer
Take one of the availabile bicycles to explore the gorgeous surrounding countryside on wheels, or relax on the estate with a friendly game of ping pong.
If you would rather dedicate some time to R&R, you have a number of options. Spend an afternoon soaking in the courtyard pool surrounded by lush flowers while sampling a Spumone gelato or a cool drink, recharge in our wellness area with hot tub and sauna, book a massage, or take part in our yoga classes. Or discover Puglia's unique culture and folklore with a short lesson in poi Taranta (Pizzica), the traditional dance of Salento.

Settle in for a relaxing afternoon chat in the bright dining room with a roaring fireplace, and keep cozy while enjoying the view of the courtyard and pool through the plate glass windows. Slow your pace over a pot of steaming tea, served with traditional Puglian pastries and specialites like a "pasticciotto" or a "delirio"...you'll understand why this regional cuisine is considered among Italy's best!
The lush estate garden includes a citrus grove surrounding the delightful 17th century chapel, making La Macchiola a picturesque venue for weddings and other ceremonies and celebrations...
A Green Eco-Vacation
La Macchiola is also an organic olive farm with a vast grove of olive trees which produce an excellent extra-virgin oil which is available for tasting and purchase, alongside their own Aldemorisco family brand jams and cookies...all organic and home made!
Each spring, the area comes alive 30 April to 1 May with the feast days of the saints Cosma and Damiano, celebrated with traditional music, food, and processions, and the 18 - 19 March, with another traditional festival called the "Tavole di San Giuseppe".
